PCA

The Parents-Coaches Association (PCA) is an organization which was formed in October 1992 to provide an opportunity for youth bowlers to obtain scholarship money to attend college or technical schools upon graduation from high school. Various fund-raising events are held throughout the year to support the goals of the association.

The PCA offers a Saturday morning bowling program for children from the age of 5 years old to 22 years old.  This league is the primary program of the PCA, with other leagues and tournaments sprouting off of it.  The home center for the PCA and the Saturday morning league is Greenway Bowl in Odenton Maryland.

Since we began, we have extended from offering scholarships in just tournament format play to include actual scholarship leagues. For the past nine years we have also become involved in the Junior Gold Program (JG). The JG program is designed as a showcase for higher average bowlers and offers $50,000 in scholarships during their National Finals each year. Close to 1000 bowlers, representing the top ¼ of one percent of youth bowlers in the nation, compete each year in the National Finals. The opportunity to compete in the National Finals for scholarships as well as the right to represent the youth of the United States in international competition, must be earned by winning a JG event.

To date the PCA has awarded an excess of $200,000.00 in scholarship dollars to over 900 bowlers. By the completion of this year, we should topple the $225,000.00 mark.

The PCA conducts various events through out the year for the bowlers to participate in.  Click here to see results from the annual PCA Open

The Mid Atlantic Youth Bowling Extravaganza (M.A.Y.B.E.) is an umbrella of the PCA. We were approached by our youth bowlers in the summer of 1998 with the request to provide an additional level of tournament competition. The first M.A.Y.B.E. was held in November 1998 at Brunswick Normandy. Since that time, we have offered M.A.Y.B.E. tournaments on a monthly basis. These events are divided into separate division for scratch and handicap bowlers. Each of these events also provides an opportunity for local bowlers to earn a JG entry for the National Finals.

In 1993 we began offering scholarship leagues during the summer. In 1995 we expanded these leagues to include a fall, winter and spring league on week nights. These leagues have been available at AMF Laurel, AMF Country Club and Greenway Bowl over the years. In 1998 we modified our format for these leagues to provide for JOG qualifying. These leagues feature competition in both a handicap and scratch division. Since 1998 we have offered a minimum of four leagues a year. Each league features a 10 week format of 4 games each night.

Since the JG began in 1997, we have through tournaments and M.A.Y.B.E. leagues advanced 140 local bowlers to the National Finals. Maryland has ranked in the top three each year for percentage of bowlers represented by State. Our talented bowlers have represented our State well and many have earned scholarships at the National Level.

PCA holds a MAYBE Invitational Tournament in the summers.  To be eligible to participate in this tournament, you must have enough points to be invited.  Points are earned for attending MAYBE tournaments and for placing at the tournaments.  The MAYBE points can be viewed Alphabetically or Numerically .

After you bowl in a MAYBE Tournament you will start to create a MAYBE Tournament Average.  After so many games bowled in MAYBE Tournaments you will start using that average, toward handicap figuring.     The averages may be viewed in Maybe Averages .
